The National Centre for Disability Advocacy (NCDA) is excited to announce that we will be conducting a census week survey. Each year there will be two surveys, one for individuals who work in the disability advocacy sector and one for organisations. We will collect similar information each year to track trends and changes and share this information back with the sector.
We will also share this information with Disability Advocacy Network Australia (DANA) to assist them in their role as ‘advocate for the advocate’. The better we understand the sector, the better we can work towards supporting the sector!
This year’s survey will open on Monday 30th October 2023 and close on Friday 10th November 2023. Keep an eye on your emails as a link to the survey will be made available via email closer to the opening date.
In order to prepare for the survey, we have made copies of the survey questions available in this email. If you have any questions, please get in touch at ncda@dana.org.au.
There will be two options in the census week survey, you will only be required to complete the survey that relates to your role in the sector:
This survey is for people who complete paid work in the disability advocacy sector and at least 50% of their role relates to completing disability advocacy-related work under a disability advocacy funding stream. A disability advocacy funding stream includes:
- The National Disability Advocacy Program (NDAP)
- The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) appeals program,
- State-funded government disability advocacy programs.
People who should take part in this survey include disability advocates of all models, supervisors and team leaders, intake and administration officers, and managers and executives. We are looking forward to hearing from everyone!

Survey for organisations in the disability advocacy sector
This survey is for organisations that deliver disability advocacy services. This includes those that are funded by a disability advocacy funding stream such as:
- The National Disability Advocacy Program (NDAP),
- The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) appeals program,
- State-funded government disability advocacy programs.
Each organisation should complete this survey once. The information you share will provide valuable insights into the sector and we look forward to being able to share this information back with you.

Please note, this survey is not intended to collect information about the National Disability Representative Organisation (DRO) program, or advocacy-like related services delivered under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Information, Linkages, and Capacity Building (ILC) program.
