Welcome to our August update!
Advocacy Sector Workforce Survey Report now available
The new Advocacy Sector Workforce Survey report is now out. The findings confirm what many of us know: our sector is highly qualified, with deep lived experience, but faces growing strain as the complexity of issues in our work increases.
You can explore the full report here and consider how its insights might inform your own organisational planning and advocacy.
Spotlight on systemic advocacy
Over the past six weeks, NCDA has been sharing the findings of the Systemic Advocacy Insight report. This campaign has highlighted some of the critical systemic advocacy efforts currently being undertaken by the sector.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed by sharing your experiences or supporting the campaign. If you haven’t yet, you can read more about the report here.
Keeping work, health, and safety at the forefront
Last month’s webinar explored why Work Health and Safety (WHS) is essential to advocacy practice. It was a valuable reminder to prioritise safety in both team culture and service delivery.
We’ve continued the conversation in the NCDA portal community: What’s one safety practice you always follow when meeting with a consumer?
Add your tip, or ‘like’ a comment that resonates with you, your input can help strengthen safe practices across the sector.
Responding to fraud in NDIS appeals
Reports of suspected or confirmed fraud in NDIS Appeals cases have been increasing. To address this proactively, NCDA is forming a working group to co-develop a guide and policy template for a consistent sector-wide response.
Upcoming learning and networking opportunities
This month’s webinar and Manager Peer Network session will feature Luke Turner, former advisor to NDIS Minister Bill Shorten. Luke will share practical strategies for engaging with government processes and decision-makers to strengthen your advocacy impact.

Correction from July update
A quick note of clarification: IDAP refers to the Individual Disability Advocacy Program (not Independent Disability Advocacy Program) and will commence on 1 July 2026 (not 2025).
We look forward to seeing you at one of our events this month, and if you can’t make it, please reach out. Our team is always ready to connect and explore how we can support your work.
