This month, we’re taking a moment to be slightly biased and share one of our NCDA resources.
Our new Learning Management System (LMS) is now live. Built specifically for the disability advocacy sector, it’s been developed by the NCDA team to support the ongoing learning and development needs of advocates across Australia.
The first module available through the LMS is Mental Health and Wellbeing for Advocates. This self-paced training complements the NCDA’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework and is designed to support and strengthen the wellbeing of advocates and teams in NDAP organisations.
When we discuss health and wellbeing in the advocacy sector, what are we referring to?
Advocates bring deep passion and commitment to their work, but the job isn’t always easy. Many of us face frustration as we push against systems that are difficult to navigate. At times, we may also experience lateral violence, or even mistreatment from the very people we are trying to support.
This module explores some of the challenges we face in the sector and offers practical strategies for managing stress, setting boundaries, and looking after ourselves and each other.
What’s included in this e-learning module?
The Mental Health and Wellbeing for Advocates module covers:
- Understanding mental health
- Recognising signs of burnout and compassion fatigue
- Tools for setting boundaries
- Self-care strategies that support long-term sustainability in advocacy work
The module takes around 90 minutes to complete. You don’t need to finish it all at once—your progress will be saved as you go.
